Who Are We?

“The Gnostic Society Samael Aun Weor” was born from the very heart of the international institutions founded by the V.M. Samael Aun Weor, as an urgent need to restore in each one of us that “initiatic Gnostic spirit” that so inspired the first disciples of the Master, and that, albeit for a very justified reason–the dissemination and expansion of the Gnostic message– we felt we were losing.

For this reason “The Gnostic Society Samael Aun Weor” was founded in Rome, Italy, on October 14th 1999, with the sincere yearning of reclaiming the “initiatic Gnostic spirit,” which for our Master Samael was, and is today, the main objective of his mission on this planet. After this necessary consideration and revaluation, which also defined our Gnostic objective, we felt then that we could enter the new 21st century in a completely different manner, for example, with a pyramidal program of Gnostic work, which, passing through “The Three Chambers of the Temple and their internal order,” points out to everyone in the Gnostic Society the path to follow towards our objective.

And through a feeling of esoteric affinity 'the few' of us who began in “The Gnostic Society Samael Aun Weor” have become 'many' at an international level. But, when we once again are confronted with this “initiatic Gnostic spirit”–which with so much love the V.M. Samael Aun Weor through his path has bequeath to us–then we are astonished to discover once again that the intimate efforts that “the few” of us were making, were not sufficient; that through the merits granted in the Gnostic path by the sacrifice for humanity, it was necessary to bring together collective efforts at a local, national and international level. So begins for us the era of “spiritual retreats” always centered on our main Gnostic objective. And it is now that we begin to have Gnostic students willing to live the so-named ordeals of the Initiatic path. It is for this reason and for this purpose that “The Gnostic Society Samael Aun Weor” exists today.

The Gnostic Association

Legally we are a “Gnostic Association,” but esoterically we are “The Gnostic Society Samael Aun Weor,” and for us, there is a fundamental difference between the two.

A "Gnostic Association,” whatever its name or acronym may be, legally represents us before the authorities of each country. And regarding those acronyms, it is important to emphasize that we are a "Cultural Association" that occupies itself with the study of "Gnostic or Psychoanalytical Anthropology," as defined by its founder the V.M. Samael Aun Weor. Therefore, although its legal name will vary in each country according to the circumstances, obviously we suggest similar acronyms when possible. However, it the logo itself (the Pegasus and the face of the V.M. Samael Aun Weor) that serves as the common denominator.

Nevertheless, it is “The Gnostic Society Samael Aun Weor,” without legal form, which with its spirit unites us in one common objective, aiming that this spirit be the same that inspired the inner work of our guru, the Venerable Master Samael. Therefore, it is unnecessary to update or remove anything from his Gnostic message; on the contrary, it is our duty to deeply apply his teachings.

Like the Esoteric Societies...

"Let us keep in mind that the true Initiatic Societies, Orders or Esoteric Schools of Mysteries did not have, nor have today, a legal entity in the physical world. In this way, they could organize themselves with traditional esoteric systems, where ritual and liturgy mandate always to take into account the will of the great hierarchies of the White Lodge in all their small and great decisions. Therefore, the sacred doctrine of self-realization was always present, never removed, which would allow profane influences.”

“Gnostic Initiatic Spirit” of the V.M. Samael Aun Weor

1. In this path my dear brothers, there are painful processes, very painful; he who wants to begin successfully must start with some physical, disciplinary sacrifices...

2. In my present existence I began by walking across some entire countries on foot, without a nickel in my pocket, sleeping in the mountains, covered with my own “rags” to ward off disease, arriving in towns penniless, even sleeping under the eaves of houses (when they had such eaves, because nowadays buildings have become so cruel that if it’s raining, one has no other choice but to put up with it. Such is the cruelty of these times!)...

3. And I don’t regret having walked penniless through entire countries; I don’t regret having suffered through the storms and hurricanes; I don’t regret having come to towns where no one knew me, and without a cent in my pocket... That’s how I began, and it was very useful for me. I began in a natural way; my Father who is in secret wanted me to begin that way, and that’s how I began. Others have had to start out like this because their Guru has set it up like that for their own good...

4. In the process of the disintegration of the Ego we have to bleed profusely, and we need to wash our feet with the blood of the heart if we want to become completely pure. The inner Self-Realization of the Being is very grave, very serious! One has to pass through frightful torments: many times one has to renounce what one loves most, one has to be willing to lose what is most dear and—I repeat—to wash the feet in the blood of the heart.

5. One needs to become something different; even one’s personal identity has to be lost. This means that one day we will have died to ourselves because we will have become something different.

6. We need to become distinct, different, to change radically; but how could we change completely if we were to maintain our present identity?

7. In the beginning I had to forge myself in this hard discipline; my Father who is in secret wanted it that way. I had not understood it, but much later in time I understood it: with me he had followed the same process that all the Gurujis of bygone times have followed, who first and foremost submitted their students to these hard tests; and there is no doubt that the students who passed through them were magnificent...”

8. Every man must decide once in his life whether he will set out to triumph, risking everything, or if he will sit back and watch the triumphant pass by.
